English info about Panumchoir - Welcome
The Panum Choir
A choir of students and alumni mainly from the medical faculty at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark
The Panum Choir is an ambitious amateur choir made up of about 35 singers in the age 20-40 years. We present at least 5 classical choral concerts every year and change our concert repertoire at least twice a year. The choir is sometimes joined by orchestras or soloists in these concerts.
While we strive to achieve music of high quality, we also highly value the quality of each other's company. As such, our weekly rehearsal evening is often extended with babble, laughs and singing at our local pub/cafe. At least once a year, the Panum Choir travels abroad perform concerts as well as for the fun of it. Recent destinations include Berlin, Milan, Amsterdam and Dublin.
The conductor of the Panum choir, Jon Hollesen, was educated at Aarhus University and the Royal Danish Music Conservatory. He has many years' experience as a conductor of several choirs and is also a professional singing teacher.
The Panum Choir was founded in 1993 at the Panum Institute (the medical faculty at the University of Copenhagen) as a choir for students. As many choir-members stayed on after graduating, the choir eventually became independent of the University. Nevertheless, about half of the people who join the Panum Choir are still students at the Panum Institute.
The Panum Choir rehearses at Skt. Stefan kirkens menighedslokale, Vedbækgade 12, 1st floor, on Tuesdays at 18:00-20:45, except during University exams and holidays. New applicants are usually required to audition, but contact Jon Hollesen to visit the rehearsals if you are interested .
In summary: A serious and cheerful choir with proud traditions and high spirits
