The Panum Choir

The Panum Choir is a choir of students and alumni mainly from the medical faculty at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The Panum Choir is an ambitious amateur choir of about 40 singers in the age 20-40 years. We present at least 5 classical choral concerts every year and change our concert repertoire at least twice a year. The choir is sometimes accompanied by orchestras or professional soloists at these concerts.

While we strive to achieve music of high quality, we also highly value the quality of each other's good company. Our weekly rehearsal evenings are therefore often extended with good laughs and more singing at our local pub/cafe. At least once a year, the Panum Choir travels abroad to perform concerts and to contribute to a workshop with another European choir – and to enjoy the cuisine, culture and fun of travelling together. Recent destinations include Dublin, Budapest, Sofia, Warsaw, and Prague- and shorter trips to Southern Sweden and the Danish countryside.

The conductor of the Panum choir, Jon Hollesen, was educated at Aarhus University and the Royal Danish Music Conservatory. He has many years' experience as a conductor of several choirs and is also a professional singing teacher.

The Panum Choir was founded in 1993 at the Panum Institute (the medical faculty at the University of Copenhagen) as a choir for medical students. As many choir members stayed in the choir after graduating, the choir eventually became independent of the University. Nevertheless, about half of the people who join the Panum Choir are still students at the Panum Institute.

The Panum Choir rehearses at Skt. Stefan Church , Vedbækgade 12, 1st floor, 2200 Copenhagen N (Nørrebro) on Tuesdays at 18:15-20:45, except during University exams and holidays. New applicants are usually required to audition in the beginning of the semesters (February and September), but contact our conductor or one of our board members to hear more about the choir or to attend an audition (please click the "kontakt" menu in the top of the screen).

If you represent a choir which is interested in visiting us or want to hear more about us and our concert trips abroad please don’t hesitate to contact us either.
